Cape York

Cooktown | Laura | Coen | Lockhart River | Weipa

The Atherton Tablelands is easily accessible from the gateway of Cape York via the Mulligan Highway to Mareeba.

With bitumen all the way along the 330 kilometre inland Mulligan Highway from Cairns, Cooktown is easy to get to. If you want a more adventurous route, go four wheel-driving along the coastal Bloomfield Track crossing rivers and creeks through World Heritage-listed rainforest and join the highway at the mysterious pile of rocks known as Black Mountain.

Cape York is Australia’s ultimate self-drive location – in fact, you’ll find more 4WDs here than anywhere else in the country. You’ll need one if you want to access most of the region as paved roads are a rarity, which adds to the sense of adventure. A 1200km strip of road connects Cairns with Cape York and will take about seven days to drive, visiting Cooktown, the Lockhart River, remote campsites and vast cattle stations.

Cape York Peninsula contains the historic town of Cooktown, remote savannah and rainforest clad National Parks and really is the last frontier of Australia.

From the Western Cape and the Gulf of Carpentaria to the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef this remote part of Australia captivates visitors with amazing wildlife, cultural experiences, characters and adventure.

Rich with Aboriginal culture and Australian pioneering history, Cape York is an untamed wilderness area waiting to be explored. The journey through Cape York Peninsula to the top of Australia is an epic adventure taking in memorable pubs, ancient rock art and spectacular natural scenery.

Great Fishing, adventure 4WD, bush camping, plan your journey to explore Epic Cape York.
